Marc is a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Gary Brennan. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry, and an MSc (Med) in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
Prior to joining FutureNeuro, he completed his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry and Human Physiology at the University of Johannesburg. He then completed his master’s by research at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School focusing on the use of bacteriophages to combat biofilm formation by uropathogenic E. coli.
The focus of his PhD is how chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 2 (CHD2) mutation influences the epigenome in developing neurons which will increase our understanding of CHD2-myoclonic encephalopathy and illuminate future therapeutic directions for this condition.
